Summary: "great race track"

I bought this for my 3 year old son. He is still getting into it, but I think he will play with it for a long time to come. Other kids have also loved it - even teenager. The racing feature is very fun.

Summary: "Fun Track"

We bought both this track and the Darda Upside Down Overpass for two of our grandsons for Christmas 2009. This track was bought for the 7-year old and is much easier to assemble than the other. However, grandpa did most of the assembly. We taped the track down to the floor so that it wouldn't lift. One of the cars that came with the set broke within the first day of use and we are having to buy another car. Our grandson enjoyed the fact that he could win a race (we used the malfunctioning car) and that the flag showed the winner. The set is now in the guest room of our house because it is too large to keep assembled in our son's bedroom at his house. We expect that it will get a lot of use when either of the grandsons are visiting.

Summary: "Darda victory lane"

Product was what we expected. Our son loves it. It is easy for a four year to take apart and assemble himself. This is great. Luckily he is pretty careful with toys, so the cars aren't a problem for him. You have to be pretty careful with the cars and they are pricey to replace. We knew that going in, but it might help someone else to know before choosing darda tracks.

Summary: "One piece of the track broke within a year"

WHO: I bought this for my 2 year old daughter as she loved toys with motion

PROS:
I knew my daughter wouldn't be able to put it together but she soon mastered the idea of putting the cars in their pit stop and pushing the green button to watch them run around the track.
Great hand eye coordination as you have to put the car in a certain spot.

CONS:
NOT the MOST durable. My 11 year old step daughter walked over it, clipped it and broke a piece of the track and didn't tell anyone, luckly I was driving by on trash day and saw someone else putting it out in the trash so I was able to snag the entire thing so now I have more than enough extra piece.

Summary: "Hands down, his favorite Christmas gift!"

This Darda NASCAR playset was the favorite Christmas gift at our house this year. He played with everything on the 24th and 25th, but by the 26th, we had all the LEGO people as spectators for the Darda race, while Thomas would deliver passengers and LEGO structures were built for the announcers and grandstands, with all play centered around his Darda NASCAR playset.

The cars themselves are much more impressive in your hand than on the screen. They've done a very nice job with the NASCAR cars: very detailed printing of the sponsor's decals, and a nice, glossy finish similar to HotWheels. Of course, the "Ultra Speed" cars in this set are made from plastic so they're much lighter than die-cast cars and can perform their stunts. Our cars have been flying around and off the track for a week now, and there are no chips in the finish. They seem like they'll hold up provided they stay indoors.

We were deciding between Darda and the Shake-N-Go Extreme (SNG-X?) playset, which had a very catchy animated video on the store displays. Our son loved both, but we only had room in our living room for one. The SNG-X has much larger cars and can impressively crash through barrels, which had tremendous appeal for our 3.5 yr old son. The SNG-X track can also be reconfigured in a number of layouts, including one loop and a couple of jumps. By comparison, this Darda track is literally flexible, so you can be very creative with the layouts for possibly thousands of possible configurations, including six loops and several turns included with this playset. While the layout on the box is cool, we've probably made twenty different original ones in the first week. This amount of track is well-matched to the cars' performance, as they tend to make it 6 loops and the connecting straight sections before running out of energy. With this set, we've also found we can make the tracks from most other Darda playsets, which is great!

The Darda spring motor is always ready to go without recharging, replacement motors are available and easy to install, and there are over 30 different car styles available individually, many on Amazon. I bought an extra car, which turns out to be a good thing because he's so attached to his NASCARs that it's hard for him to share with Mom n' Dad. We read several reviewer complaints that the charge on the Shake N Go cars wouldn't last very long, and kids would have to wait 45 minutes for each car to charge - a potential landmine of frustration with our little guy. The SNG-X internal rechargeable batteries are not intended to be replaced, and several reviewers found some cars would not take a charge out of the box. I was concerned about the longevity of the SNG-X cars, as it seemed the sealed batteries were likely to degrade with time, and the cars that fit the SNG-X track are not available individually.

The box says ages 4+, but small hands will have trouble bending the loop sections into some configurations. On the other hand, this has provided many collaborative play opportunities with father, mother, and son. There are no small chokeable parts for baby sister to find.

Customer service is great: We had an intermittently faulty motor, which they will replace by mail. I'll probably order a couple more for when these wear out. Better than batteries, and greener, too.
